Your baby’s DNA in a blood sample
From the earliest stages of pregnancy, the DNA of an unborn baby is present in the maternal blood stream. As pregnancy weeks pass, the concentrations of fetal DNA increase making it possible for us to extract enough fetal genetic markers from a maternal blood sample to carry out our test. During pregnancy, the maternal blood supply and that of the fetus are kept functionally separate by a very important organ that lines the womb- this organ is known the placenta. This blood barrier does its job relatively well but does not act as a 100% efficient barrier between the 2 blood supplies allowing fetal DNA (from the apoptosis of placental cells) to seep through it and enter the mother’s blood.
Using very advanced methods we are able to analyse the fetal DNA in maternal blood and compare it to the DNA of the alleged father or alleged fathers.
The NIPPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity test) is performed using NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) technology.
When testing mouth swabs for the alleged father, we examine 2,688 SNP’s (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism’s). When testing Blood for the Alleged Father, we are able to test over 5,000 SNP’s in order to determine paternity with 99.9% accuracy for an inclusion and 100% accuracy for an exclusion.
The only time we cannot conduct the test is if the Mother is expecting twins or if the alleged Fathers are close blood relatives. The price for the Prenatal Paternity Test is $1,800.

How do I collect samples?
EasyDNA New Zealand will provide you with a special sample collection kit. Ours kits are uniquely designed for our prenatal test and contain special, sterile blood collection tubes which contain a blood anticoagulant. We need two blood tubes to be filled for the mother. Samples for the alleged father are to be collected using the mouth swabs we provide or blood which will be the same collection process as the mother. We can recommend a Pathology to collect your samples or you may nominate your own collector. It is essential that only the vials inside our kit are used to contain the blood samples.
We will arrange for a courier to pick up your samples from the pathology.
The cost of a non invasive prenatal paternity test is $1,800. EasyDNA offers you the option to pay for your test in two instalments. You can pay a deposit of 50% of the cost prior to commencing your test process and make the rest of the payment once we receive your samples at the laboratory.
We can carry out the test with just one alleged father or both. EasyDNA does suggest testing both alleged fathers if available for the test. If people taking part in the test live in different locations, we can organise sending out kits to different addresses. Charges may, in such cases, apply.
This is a prenatal test for paternity and not a baby gender test; we cannot tell you the sex of your baby using our prenatal paternity test.
Your results are ready in just 7-10 working days or 10-14 working days (depending on the type of samples provided for the Alleged Father) and will be sent to you by email or post.
