What is ISO17025 accreditation? Back to top
Laboratory ISO 17025 accreditation is your guarantee of technical competence and reliability. Any company that works with ISO accredited laboratories will have this clearly displayed on their websites. To gain this accreditation, the laboratory will need to consistently and unfalteringly show the highest standards in DNA testing. ISO 170 25 is one of the most important and widely recognised accreditations for calibration and DNA testing facilities.
How much does a test cost? Back to top
Prices depend on the test you are taking please refer to the pricing information on our Order DNA Test page.
When and how do I pay? Back to top
We will begin processing your DNA test once you have placed your order with us. Payment can be made by either Master card or Visa. Payment can also be made by bank draft or money order made payable to ‘easyDNA Limited’. We suggest that you visit the payment options page for more information.
How soon will I get my test results? Back to top
You will get your results in 5 - 7 working days. This is the standard turnaround time for most of our DNA tests. You may wish to note that a handful of tests we offer have longer turnaround times as they require a more complex and lengthy technique of DNA analysis. We also offer express DNA testing if our standard turnaround time is too long. Our express service makes your results available in 2 working days. The cost is of $235. You can also test various other samples besides the usual oral swabs you find inside our home sample collection kit. View our list of Non-standard samples such as hair, chewing gum, cigarette butts to understand more. Using these samples does not affect your turnaround time.
How does a paternity test work? Back to top
What we do in a paternity test is extract a DNA profile for the alleged father and another DNA profile from the child. We can easily determine if the tested, alleged father is the biological father by verifying whether the DNA profiles match. A paternal DNA analysis is 99.99% accurate at confirming the biological father. One further advantage of paternity testing is the straightforward manner in which it can be carried out. We will provide you with a home sampling kit. To see how to use this, visit our sample collection guide.
How accurate is the paternity Test? Back to top
The paternity test we offer is extremely accurate. So much so that our legal DNA test results can be used in court of proof of relationship between the father and the child. If the alleged father si the biological father, our results will state a probability of paternity above 99.9%.
Can a paternity test be performed without the mother? Back to top
Yes, we do in fact carry out many paternity tests without the mother's sample. If her sample is available for the test then we always suggested sending it in. There is only a small additional cost of $35 to analyse the mother's sample. Your paternity test result will be more accurate if the alleged father, child and mother's sample are included in the test.
Will the DNA test kit arrive discreetly? Back to top
We ensure 100% anonymity. The kit arrives in a standard envelope with only the name of the recipient of that kit. There are no markings or company logos which could indicate that within the envelope is a DNA test.
Can I send separate kits to different addresses? Back to top
We often get cases in which clients need us to send out two kits to two separate addresses. In some cases, we even deliver kits to different countries for the same test. If you need kits at different locations, contact us to discuss the destination of each kit. Leave the rest up to us; we will sort out the logisitics of it. easyDNA operates through a network of offices around the world- we can organise kit delivery from the nearest offices to your chosen address and also include instructions in languages other than english. Important to note that testing can only commence once we have all DNA samples at the laboratory.
We do suggest you send us an email on email@example.com to organise everything prior to placing your order.
Can my DNA test be used in court? Back to top
Our home paternity test does not provide court admissible results. For this, we suggest a legal DNA test. With legal testing the validity of the results cannot be contested as the sample collection is fool-proof and carried out by a neutral third party sampler specially appointed for the test in question.
What is the Chain of Custody procedure? Back to top
Every step during a legal DNA test must be documented and every sample collected must be verified. Exactly which sample belongs to which person must be supported by ID evidence so that the result is incontrovertible. The problem with home tests when compared to legal tests is that they do not any third party person to collect the samples and actually verify who is taking part in the test; people can deliberately cheat in an at home test by submitting the wrong samples or exchanging samples before sending them to the laboratory for testing. This cannot happen with legal DNA testing as the "Chain of custody" ensures the validity and integrity of all DNA samples. Every person taking part in the test will need to present a form of ID as well as passport photos. The sampler will need to validate the photos by signing the back of them and declaring the authenticity of each. Further to this, the sampler needs to collect the samples and is responsible for the final stage in the chain of custody: sending the samples to the laboratory for testing. Legal DNA test results will be notarised and clients will receive both an email as well as a hard copy.
Could you tell me how a paternity test and maternity test differ? Back to top
No. There is no difference in the way the test is processed and results presented. The only difference is that instead of the alleged father’s sample the client will send that of the alleged mother for analysis. easyDNA charges the same price for this test as for a paternity test.
How long do you keep the samples? Back to top
Once we have carried out your DNA test the sample get destroyed. We do not send any samples back unless specifically requested by the client. If you have sent in oral swabs or any kind of non standard sample such as reading glasses or items of clothing, these will be destroyed. If you wish to have them returned, you will need to organise this with us prior to testing. We may need to apply postage charges for the return of the sample. Moreover, bear in mind that DNA analysis may require destruction of the sample (for example, to analyse teeth we need to crush the tooth).
What does a DNA paternity test result look like? How can I interpret the result? Back to top
A paternity test result simply shows the genetic markers extracted during DNA analysis. You will be able to compare genetic markers on the profile of the people tested. You will also have a probability of paternity which clearly shows whether the tested man is the biological father or not. Our sample test results is ideal to breeze through if you wish to see what results look like. If you do have any questions, feel free to contact us.
How secure is information about me? Back to top
The information you provide during the purchase process is protected during transmission by using a 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption software, which encrypts all the information you input. You can verify this yourself by checking our encryption certificate displayed on the Order page.
In addition, we reveal only the last four digits of your credit card numbers when confirming an order. Of course, we securely transmit the entire credit card number to the appropriate credit card company during order processing. easyDNA does not retain any credit card information itself. Therefore if there is any need to make an additional payment, we cannot process this ourselves but will require the client to go through the ordering process again.
From what samples is it possible to extract DNA? Back to top
Human DNA can be extracted from any body fluid or tissue (saliva, semen, blood, hair, nails etc.) Also DNA can be extracted from any item that is contaminated with body fluids (chewing gum, cigarette butts, sanitary towels etc.) Please refer to our DNA forensics secton and review our Non-standard DNA sample price list to see what is acceptable for DNA testing.
Is it possible to do DNA tests on hair samples? Back to top
We can carry out DNA testing with hair samples. However, for us to even be able to consider a DNA relationship test or a paternity test with such a sample, the client needs to make sure that the hairs have the follicle still attached. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a hair DNA test if there is no follicle; the follicle or hair root is the only part of the hair from which we can extract viable nuclear DNA.
If the hairs do have the root and you can provide 4- 6 hairs, then we can proceed with the test. The chances of extracting a complete DNA profile from a hair sample are of around 60-65%. The more fresh the hairs are the better our chances. If hairs are very old, the chances are dimished.
Can DNA analysis be used for cases of infidelity? Back to top
Infidelity DNA testing is a powerful tool in solving cases of suspected infidelity. Normally, clients send in samples which they suspect to be linked to a sexual affair. They might, for example, send in nail clippings or stained clothes. We can analyse the samples to determine whether there is male or female DNA or even establish the presence of mixed profiles. Further to this, we can carry out comparisons between the DNA samples provided to confirm whether these are actually from the same single donor or from different donors.
What can be done if the alleged father doesn't want to give his DNA sample but a member of his family is willing to? Back to top
DNA relationship testing is great in cases where the alleged father is not available for the test and relatives need to carry out a paternity test. By carrying out a DNA test between relatives, the paternity of a the person whose father is in question could be determined. For example, a sibling DNA test can be done to verify is siblings (male or female) have the same father. We can even confirm whether siblings have the same mother by doing an mitochondrial DNA test. Relationship tests can be done between grandparents and grandchildren, male blood relatives, aunts and uncles with their nieces or nephews and more.
How long can the DNA samples survive? Back to top
The DNA extracted from saliva (blood or some other biological material) can be stored for a number of years. Obviously the DNA sample has to be stored properly. If saliva swabs are used, it's important to leave swabs to dry completely before being placed in an envelope.
