In addition we have also provided a visual guide for further assistance in collecting your DNA sample using our DNA testing kit. The process below is to be repeated for every individual that is to be involved in the test. Please follow the instructions carefully.
Step One: (view image) Our DNA testing kits are normally pre-packed and inside you will find coloured coded envelopes to cover up to three individuals. Therefore if you ordered a two-person test, kindly note that the third envelope is extra and should be retained until the testing is completed and the DNA test result issued.
Step Two: (view image) Inside each of the envelopes you will find a pair of swabs that are also colour coded to match the colour of the envelop they are in. This will assist to ensure that the swabs are placed inside the correct envelope. We strongly recommended that the persons to be tested do not eat or drink at least half an hour prior to taking the DNA sample.
Step Three: (view image) Fill out the submission forms as well as the details on the outside of the envelope/s making sure everything is filled in clearly and correctly. Please print in block capitals.
Step Four: (view image) Remove the swabs from the paper packaging. Be careful not to touch the cotton end of the swab with anything so it remains sterile. There are two swabs provided per each person to be tested.
Step Five: (view image) Rub the cotton end of the swab along the inside of your cheek, under your tongue and behind your lips as well. Do this for 10 seconds per person. Remember you are collecting cheek cells and not just saliva, so rub right against the inside of the cheek. Do this with both of the colour coded swabs per person.
Step Six: (view image) Before placing the swab back in the colour coded envelope allow the swab a MINIMUM of 1 hour to dry. Place the swab somewhere that the end of the swab is not touching anything else. When dry place the swabs back in the colour coded envelope. Do NOT touch the end of the swab at anytime, even to check if it is dry.
Step Seven: (view image) Insert the sealed coloured envelopes inside the pre-addressed envelope provided in your DNA kit. Ensure that you also include your submission forms correctly filled in as results cannot be issued if we do not have your forms. You then ned to send the envelope back to easyDNA so we can do the testing. Please make sure to remember to affix the postage stamps on the envelope.
