DNA Relationship Testing
easyDNA New Zealand offers DNA relationship testing priced from only $699. Relationship testing is used to assess if two or more people share a biological relationship. In situations where the alleged parents are unavailable for testing, a sibling test can be carried out to analyse the relationship of biological siblings through DNA comparison with their alleged relatives.
Relationship testing is slightly more complex than paternity testing and can be used to determine various types of familial relationships.
Complete list of DNA relationship tests
Depending on the people available for testing and gender, there are several different testing methodologies that can be used. An explanation of the various DNA testing methodologies is provided below.
Sibling testing is ideal in situations where alleged siblings want to confirm if they are full siblings, half siblings or possibly not related at all. A siblings test can be conducted with or without the parent’s sample.
easyDNA can confirm whether two or more siblings share a common biological father. In the case of half sibling testing, the sample of the known parent/s (normally the Mother) is recommended to strengthen the results of the test.
- If siblings are male and want to determine if they share the same father, we recommend Y chromosome test. This test will confirm whether males share the same paternal lineage For more information on this test, visit our Y chromosome testing page.
- An X chromosome test is used in cases where siblings are female, have different mothers and wish to establish whether they share the same father. For more information on this type of test visit our page on X chromosome testing
- An MtDNA test can be done when siblings wish to determine maternal lineage. For more information about this test visit our
- To confirm whether twins are fraternal or identical (monozygotic or heterozygotic twins) we recommend a twin zygosity test.
Siblingship testing is priced from $699. Results are available in 5-7 working days receipt of samples at the laboratory.
Grandparentage DNA test Order Now
In situations where the alleged father is unavailable for testing, the alleged father's parents can be tested to determine whether they are the biological grandparents of their grandchild. In a grandparentage test, we recommend testing both paternal grandparents. A single grandparentage test can also be carried out, but it is not as reliable as having samples from both grandparents. The sample of a known parent (normally the Mother of the grandchild) is required for a single grandparent test.
The grandparentage test is priced from $699. Results are available in 5-7 working days from receipt of samples at the laboratory.
Avuncular DNA test (aunt/uncle testing) Order Now
Avuncular testing confirms the biological relationship between an Aunt or Uncle with their niece or nephew. This test is used when the alleged parent of the niece or nephew is deceased or unwilling to participate in the test. The sample of the Mother is recommended to strengthen the results of the test.
Avuncular testing is priced from $699. Results are available in 5-7 working days from the receipt of samples at the laboratory.
STR analysis - testing for full or half siblings
A brother and sister DNA sibling test analyses a number of different genetic markers (known as loci) in the persons tested. Full siblings have more DNA in common than half siblings and logically, half siblings have more DNA in common than unrelated individuals. A sibling test examines the amount of genetic material shared in order to establish the probability of relationship.
We always suggest to include the sample from any known parent/s of the person/s being tested.
